Educational Services on Effective Cancer Clinical Trial Recruitment and Retention
Because clinical trial recruitment
and retention planning is frequently overlooked during clinical trial protocol
development, accrual can be a
challenge at the local accrual sites. Nurses and CRAs must continually
create new approaches to recruitment, often with little more than
anecdotal evidence about “what works.” To address this need,
ENACCT provides technical assistance and training to clinical trial staff
to help them:
- develop effective outreach, recruitment and retention plans
- provide culturally appropriate outreach recruitment and retention
practices
Consulting Services include:
Needs Assessment - determining the strengths and weaknesses of current service
delivery
and providing specific recommendations for improvement for structural changes
to
enhance recruitment practices
Custom designed, skill-based Training Programs for CRAs, nurses, and physicians on
such topics as:
- How to develop ongoing collaborative partnerships with community groups that
can enhance trust and communications between underserved communities and the
medical community
- How to develop a realistic recruitment and retention plan beyond “campaigns” or brochures
- How to develop approaches to work with patients with limited reading/writing
skills
- Before Consent: Optimal approaches in ascertaining the interest of
patients/families in participation
- How to address
attitudinal and structural barriers in a creative manner appropriate to the
community.
