"Your Role: How You Can Be An Advocate for Cancer Clinical Trials in Your Community"

For community leaders and patient advocates, this course is designed to prompt action on sharing information about the importance of clinical trials and encouraging all patients to ask about clinical trials regardless of diagnostic stage.

Participants learn how to:

  • Reflect on how cancer impacts one's own community;
  • Explain what cancer clinical trials are, how they work, and why they're important;
  • Discuss the risks and benefits of clinical trial participation; and
  • Identify three specific actions advocates and community members can take to increase their peers' awareness of clinical trials

LEVEL II
"Your Role in Action: Community Leaders and Patient Advocates"

Designed for community leaders and patient advocates, this course is designed to share practical examples of how individuals and groups across the country have successfully implemented approaches to community-based cancer clinical trials education and outreach. This program is not eligible for continuing education credit. If you are a physician, nurse or social worker, please view one of our other programs to receive credit.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review common barriers to clinical trial participation
  • Dispel common myths about what cancer clinical trials are and how they work
  • Review how messages for taking action may vary according to one's current awareness and experiences with cancer and clinical trials
  • Review lessons learned in launching community education and outreach activities
  • Develop your own plan of action to advocate for cancer clinical trials in your community
