Communities as Partners in Cancer
Clinical Trials: Changing Research, Practice & Policy is
an innovative national effort, sponsored
by ENACCT
and CCPH (Community-Campus Partnerships for Health),
to explore the potential of employing community-based
participatory research (CBPR) principles in therapeutic
trial design, recruitment, retention and dissemination
and to create a strategic plan to shape research,
practice and policy for this field.
A diverse group of project participants, including
grassroots organizations, cancer centers, health
professional schools, the pharmaceutical industry,
Federal health agencies, and community-based
oncology practices, has been tasked with developing
CBPR-inspired recommendations for community engagement
in phase III cancer treatment trials. Participants
have conducted their work at two invitational
meetings (September 2007 and March 2008) and
on-going teleconferences (November 2007 – April
2008). The final recommendations and strategic
plan will be released in July 2008.
