| In 2001, a number of community based organizations formed the Collaborative with the purpose of improving tobacco prevention and cessation services for ethnically diverse cultural and socio-economic minority communities in Pierce County, about 30 minutes from Seattle.
In addition to working in smoking cessation, the Collaborative has expanded our work to 3 new areas to decrease health disparities in Pierce County:
- Cancer screening, detection and treatment,
- Substance abuse and prevention, and
- Motivational interviewing as a behavior change technique.
Why we are an ENACCT site
We believe that addressing local challenges in cancer clinical trials is an important step to addressing health disparities in Pierce County. By tackling this serious disparity in health care, Collaborative members are
- gaining additional leadership and research and medical expertise,
- ensuring better health care alternative for community members and
- continuing to build the necessary relationships to truly resolve health disparities.
