What's
New at the Cross Cultural Collaborative

Navigators are much more comfortable giving
presentations and workshops. Workshops were conducted
by the Latino-Hispanic, Low Income, API and African
American Navigators to 36 community leaders.
A presentation was conducted on September 20,
2007 to ten Community Leaders by an LGBTQ Navigator
at the Sovereign Court of Tacoma (Drag Queens
function).
In September, we hosted a workshop on “Improving
Your Recruitment and Retention Practices” for
clinical trial team members. This gave us the
opportunity to bring together 13 clinical trials
staffers and 7 community outreach navigators
to talk about the challenges of recruitment and
retention that both the community and researchers
face. Great conversations emerged from this training
and the local Policy & Advisory Committee will
build those ideas and suggestions when planning
and implementing project work.
The Policy & Advisory Committee has been working
with Northwest CCOP for the approval of the short
consent form approved by the HHS Office of Human
Research Protections for Limited English Proficiency
and Non-English speaking patients. The form is
now being used throughout all sites in our county.
It is our hope this will serve to improve access
to clinical trials.
